At conventions of Braysons he’d bray and delay some, and his work quite never got through. “Why do you bray”, asked Pally Wig Piggy? “It seems too silly, but there must be a reason to rhyme with your word.” “Oh, yes! Oh, yes!”, B. B. bubbled and wheezed, “We asses feel respected and praised when the earth is flying and raised, by the striking of our hooves as a herd. JUST LOOK AT US: WE ARE THE ASSES! WE FEEL SO RESPECTABLE WHEN WE RUN IN HERDS WITH OUR FELLOWS AND OUR HOOVES STRIKE THE EARTH! # # # MINUTES OF MEETING OF NIMSAR All Glories to His Divine Grace Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami, Prabhupada, Founder-acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness Esteemed Friends and Members of ISKCON, Please accept our humble obeisances and best wishes. Nimsar, a Branch of Hanumatpresaka Swami’s, ISKCON Anjana Suta Academy (ASA), met at 10AM in the office of the Chosika, Peru Temple. Present were: Patraka Das, Tattva-vit-gaura Das, Candra-mukhi Devi Dasi and Gaura-gadadhara Devi Dasi. Present by Webex were: H. H. Hanumatpresaka Swami, Jagat-pavitram Das Rohini Devi Dasi and Ananga-manjari Devi Dasi. Due to the very bad medical condition of Laksmana-agra-ja Das the Treasurer, Patrak Das, took the position of President of the Meeting with Candramukhi Devi Dasi as Secretary. After extensive discussion of the basic Brahminical character of Nimsar, individual determination of the different members, practical immediate and long term goals of Nimsar, the following resolutions were made. For the next six months the Officers of Nimsar shall be: President – Patrak Das Secretary – Candramukhi Devi Dasi Treasurer – Yugala-kishore Devi Dasi Curriculum Development – Rohini Devi Dasi REGULAR WORK Taking into serious consideration the meetings with Jaga-jivana and Caitanya-candra Das’ et al, Nimsar will continue with its service to the Peru yatra and ISKCON as both formally and informally established with previous ISKCON authorities, being sure to communicate with Regional Counsel President, Caitanya-candra Das, and Regional GBC Secretary, Jaga-jivana Das all activities of Nimsar, while satisfying Jaga-jivana Das's request that NIMSAR be formally affiliated. FORMAL AFFIATION Hanumatpresaka Swami had investigated the relationship of similar academic groups such as Bhakti-vedanta College in Radha-desa, Bhakti-vedanta Institute in San Francisco, Oxford Center for Hindu studies and all of these are legally constituted as separate entities from local ISKCON yatra and only have informal but fully integrated relations with the local Yatra. Thus the relation that ASA has with othe Yatras where its friends and members are serving. This include, Nashville, Tennessee; Mexico City; Chile. However, since the conclusion of the meetings with Jaga-jivan Prabhu was that Nimsar should formally become an ISKCON Affiliate, then HpSwami is contacting the local GBC Secretary, Tamohara Das, and Sesa Das, ISKCON Minister of Education, to make ASA a formal ISKCON Affiliate. Although some felt that this might be excessively bureaucratic at first, in conclusion it is taken as very nice, since the Ministry of Education is trying to develop a system of formal affiliation. CONVOCATORIO With Rohini devi dasi as the official ISKCON Peru Bhakti-sastri Administrator and Hanumatpresaka Swami as the official Examiner, Nimsar will issue a convocatorio inviting all interested persons to sit for the annual Bhakti-sastri examminations on xxx. To take the examination everyone must have approval by their ISKCON Temple President or such authority. A special invitation will be sent to senior devotees since it is felt that their approval of and participation in the programs is essential for smooth operation. NEXT MEETING Next Meeting of Nimsar will be scheduled for xxx. Discussion and implemention of any comments by the Regional Counsel et al on these minutes will be discussed and implemented at that time. Other agenda topics will include registering NIMSAR as a legal entity in Peru. Bhakti-vaibhava applications and examinations. Sincerely Candramukhi Devi Dasi, Secretary NIMSAR Foreword for the Portuguese “Ramayana” of Krishna-Dharma Professor Huber Hutchin Robinson Institute for Oriental and Occidental Classical Studies, Ricardo Palma University, Lima, Peru. “We Europeans are not the only people on the earth. We are just a peninsula of Asia, and on that continent there are old civilizations where people have trained their minds in introspective for thousands of years, whereas we began with our psychology not even yesterday but only this morning.” C. G. Jung, ‘Analytical Psychology, Its Theory and Practice’, Vintage Books, 1970, pg. 74. Of course India is often glorified as the land of meditation and philosophy, but let us go a step farther and propose that it is also a land of great physical heritage. According to the internal expression of the “Ramayana” it was written over a million years ago. Of course, it is a discussion too detailed for the size of this present Foreword, but approaching the “Ramayana” from an academic background, that included the study of Quantum Mechanics at the University of California, Berkeley, we could not blindly accept this date. However, after years of investigating the claims of the “Ramayana” and the other Indian classical literature, such as the “Bhagavata Purana” and “Bhagavad-gita” for an alternative cosmology to that which has developed out of our centuries of European endeavor, we accept that there actually was a Rama and that this story took place over a million years ago. To give a little analogy, if we go to New York city in the winter we will see no fruits, flowers or usually not even any leaves on the trees. There will be no sun, all the people will be covered in thick clothes or in autos. There will be no squirrels or dogs playing in the parks. Of course, a cockroach born in such an environment may have great doubts about the different climatic conditions that you describe to him that occur during summer and spring. If the reader wishes to make a serious investigation of the competing cosmologies of Vedic and modern Science, then we think it is a noble, practical and satisfying investigation. Even looking at the articles on Radio-carbon dating and the allied links in the Encyclopedia Britannica will show the severe paucity of foundation we have for making declarations about what happened one million years ago. However, let us close with another line of investigation, and that is based on a comment by Mark Twain, who when asked whether he thought the works of Shakespeare were actually written by William Shakespeare responded that he thought that the works of Shakespeare were definitely written by Shakespeare or someone else of that name. The sarcasm being that what we most know of Shakespeare is his dramas. If this measure be applied to this retelling of the “Ramayana” by Krishna Dharma then the tradition speaks for itself. We have read so many editions of the “Ramayana” that we have lost count. Again the Britannica article on the “Ramayana” can inform you to its extent in world-wide translations, but we honestly judge this “Ramayana” to be one of the most transparent. Here you will find the beauty, profundity and relevance of the original “Ramayana” that bespeaks of an author and subsequent caretakers who have handed down the story to us who have been vastly far too intelligent and strong hearted to ever give us something that they know to be other than the truth. So, if you take it as a window onto the ancient earth, or a whopping good adventure tale you’ve come to the right place. Just one word of quite serious warning however, be careful if you have anything pressing to do because once you open it up, you may discover that you may not be able to put it down.
